My brother and I (Sam and Brett Jackson), owners of Heartland Turf and Landscape, began our careers in the green industry at a young age. As sons of a fireman who mowed lawns part time during off days for supplemental income, we learned the ropes while helping dad with his business. Our father instilled the value of attention to detail and a conscientious approach to everything we do.
While attending college at KU, we set out on our own. In the beginning, the lawn care business was a great way to earn some income while finishing school. During this time, we developed great relationships with our customers and really enjoyed the lawn care business. After graduating we both recognized the wonderful opportunity to continue doing something we really loved and grow our business into the full service lawn and landscape company it is today.
In the spring of 2002, Heartland Turf and Landscape, LLC, was created. The great relationships we formed with our customers in the beginning, inspired a simple guiding principal on which we founded our company: “Extremely satisfied customers will remain loyal and spread the word”. Although our company has grown, we still provide the same quality service and attention to detail as we did when we were just two brothers cutting grass. We will always remain committed to striving for excellence in everything we do.

I’m a co-owner of Heartland Turf & Landscape, and I’ve spent more than 20 years in the lawn and landscape industry. Much of my focus today is on continually improving how we operate, the technology we use, and, most importantly, the experience we provide our clients.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and pretty much anything that gives me an excuse to be outdoors.

I am Mom to 3 grown-ups, 3 English pointers and more plants than I care to count, and Gram Gram to two grandsons. My hobbies are baking and horticulture. The thing I love most about working at Heartland Turf is learning the science of lawn care, how things grow, the causes and effects of things that happen in the lawn, and then being able to share that knowledge with all of the great people I get to talk to every day.

It’s funny how we all, at one point, fall back into what we know and love. I grew up in Veracruz, Mexico, on a small farm. We harvested mostly fruits and vegetables. No animals, except my cousins and neighbors! There is something about being able to go through your day not knowing what challenges might come or the people you are going to meet. It’s satisfying knowing that each day, somehow or some way, you can make a difference for yourself or others!

After 30 years in an unrelated industry and one year in retirement, it became obvious to my wife and me that I was not ready to be home all day. I am so grateful that I was able to seamlessly move into a role with a company that reflects all of the values and commitments that were a rock-hard requirement for me to represent. Every day is a joy because of the hundreds of regular customers I interact with daily, along with an unmatched team of coworkers and leadership. Watching this company grow year over year is the added bonus.
